What’s Inside A Predator 314 Shaft?

Last summer, we had the opportunity to check out the innards of McDermott’s G-Core shaft. Well, thanks to the folks at UPS, we have another shaft to look at – The Predator 314 shaft. What’s interesting about this shaft isn’t so much what’s inside, but what’s not inside it. As you can see, the end of the shaft is actually hollowed out.

This doesn’t run down the whole shaft though, as it only occurs in the front five inches or so. The rest of the shaft is solid, with the laminated “pie piece” core.

The question of course is why they hollow out the front end of the shaft. The science behind this is actually pretty logical. The lighter the front end of the shaft is, the less deflection you’ll experience. Predator has a patent on this hollowing out process and have shown in independent tests that it does in fact reduce deflection quite a bit. Other shaft makers use the reduced weight front end, but none do it the same way as Predator.

That’s all. Just thought I’d share, since I thought it was cool.

This of course begs the question, why would the folks at PoolDawg endure the humiliation of dressing up 70s style and putting themselves on display for literally hundreds of thousands of people? Well, part of it is that I (the creepy looking guy wearing a wig in the lower left corner) have a sense of humor that’s a bit twisted, but the real reason is simply because we figured our customers would get a kick out of it.

Sometimes the web can be a little cold and sterile, so anytime we can inject a little personality and life into it, we do. Plus, we’re still a small company and if you call us during business hours, you’re going to reach one of the four people in the ad. It’s always nice to be able to put a face to the voice, even if that face is all Brady Bunch’d out.

Yep, that’s our very own writer and long time friend of PoolDawg on the TV. I’ve tried to convince Liz to do the actual Time Warp and post it on Youtube, but she simply refuses to make that jump to the left or that step to the right. She did however work with the guys at Discovery Channel to show some of the physics of pool on their show “Time Warp”. Tebowmania Hits PoolDawg’s World Headquarters

I’ve been dreading this day ever since the start of the football season. I knew it was coming, but I still hoped it would never arrive. After yesterday’s Broncos/Jets game though, Tebowmania has taken over.

See, the PoolDawg offices are really just a microcosm of the world. Within the office there are those who love Tim Tebow and those who can’t stand his game. On one side, we have Alexis and Mariya, both donning their beloved #15 jerseys.

Then there’s the other side. Keven bleeds Green and Gold so you won’t ever see him wearing anything but A-Rodg or Tremon Williams on game day. Then there’s yours truly, who hasn’t had a pro football team to root for since the Raiders packed up and moved to the bay area. Really, I just watch pro football to track my fantasy team.

Being from Wisconsin, Keven was immunized with Packercillin at birth so he’ll never catch the dreaded Tebowmania disease. Me though, I’m susceptible. I’m a man without a team and while I do love watching A-Rodg strap on the championship belt, those miracle drives are pretty fun to watch. Between the drives, the fanaticism here in town and the general sea of orange and blue that seems to be taking over the office, I’m feeling a little feverish. Plus, the guy even has a song now.

It’s gotten so bad here that Alexis and Mariya are even trying to teach Frank how to do the Tebowing thing.

Seriously, if the guy ever figures out how to throw a pass, I’m gonna be hooked. Fortunately, it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen anytime soon.
