Do I want a fiberglass cue?

At pooldawg.com we have a number of different pool cues. One of the options that we carry are fiberglass. There are a couple of brands that we carry that are fiberglass and these include the Athena, Cuetec, and Scorpion cues. All of the other brands that we carry are going to be wooden (usually maple) cues.  Either wooden or maple are going to play well, but there are a few differences between them.

The fiberglass cues are still made from maple wood however, they have a fiberglass coating over the entire cue sealing it off. The benefits of this is that this coating helps protect the cue from warping, dings, and scratches. Since the cue is sealed it will  resist temperature and humidity changes more than a wooden cue would. However, you should always try to keep your pool cue away from both excessive heat, cold, and humidity. The fiberglass coating will only help the cue not warp but it is still possible if the cue is not taken care of properly.

The one downside of purchasing a fiberglass cue is that they are not weight changeable. Most of the wooden cues that we carry at pooldawg.com are weight adjustable. This is when you can take off the bumper and add or subtract a weight bolt from the butt of the cue.  However, since the fiberglass cues are sealed shut a weight change would be extremely difficult except on a few models because you would have to break the fiberglass seal.

Both wooden and fiberglass cues are going to play well. It is up to you if you would rather have the fiberglass seal on there or not. Either way when you purchase a pool cue from pooldawg.com you will be satisfied with the quality of your cue stick.
