What are the different parts of my cue?

On February 15, 2007, in Billiards Products, by Michael Feiman

A pool cue shaft is made up of a number of different parts starting with the tip and ferrule and working down to the butt and bumper. The materials used in the parts of the pool cue will make a difference in how your cue plays. For example, you’ll notice a difference in feel when you play with a steel jointed cue such as a Griffin cue vs. a wood to wood jointed cue like this Action Sneaky Pete pool cue.

Likewise, one of the big selling points of the new 2nd Generation Predator Shaft is the new shorter ferrule. According to Predator, the shorter ferrule will improve your cue’s overall performance.

For a detailed discussion of the parts of the pool cue, we encourage you to check out our Anatomy of a Pool Cue page which breaks down every part of the cue from tip to bumper.
